Turn a tool result into a real transition test
The Career Transition Finder is meant for people who already have experience but are unsure what another industry would call it. Use it to create a short list of plausible directions, then test those directions against real job postings.
What to carry forward
Start with tasks you have actually performed, not flattering labels. Training, documentation, scheduling, customer communication, supervision, troubleshooting, data, project coordination, sales, compliance, and technical work can transfer only when the target occupation values the same underlying behavior.
What the tool cannot prove
It cannot prove that an employer will accept your background as equivalent experience, that a license can be waived, or that local pay and openings make the transition financially sensible. Treat results as hypotheses to research.
A good next step
- Choose three results.
- Read at least 10 local postings across them.
- Write down repeated hard requirements and preferred skills.
- Identify the smallest real gap.
- Build proof or targeted training only after the gap is verified.
Use the Career Jargon Decoder when postings use language such as “equivalent experience,” “degree preferred,” or “required experience.”
